KUALA LUMPUR: Strong
demand for the new Myvi which hit showrooms last month may propel Perusahaan
Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua)back to the top of the vehicle sales
chart in Malaysia.
Industry
analysts opined that demand for the new Perodua might see the car company
regain billing as the top car seller in the country by August or September this
year.
“It's expected that they
will come back (to top spot) over the next three months,” said Affin Securities
Sdn Bhd analyst Chong Lee Len.
Sales of
Perodua have been affected by supply disruption caused by the earthquake in
Japan and also the phasing out of the old Myvi, a lull which allowed Proton Holdings
Bhd to recapture the leadership in auto sales in the first half
of the year.
However, more recently,
indications that Perodua could be on its way up again was based on the
encouraging response it has received since the launch of the new Myvi last
month.
Perodua managing
director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said the new Myvi has now
received 22,000 bookings and that the company was targeting to sell between
8,000 and 8,500 units of the new car a month.
One pleasant
surprise was that the bookings for automatic version has been more than
planned; currently 90% of the bookings of the Myvi were for the auto version
whereas Perodua had planned 70% of production for the auto version and 30% for
the manual.
“We need two
to three months to adjust production to match demand for the auto from the
manual version,” he said.
One benefit from that
higher demand for the auto variant is that margins are typically better.
Perodua is also looking
to beef up margins with the top-of-the line version of the Myvi drawing the
highest demand.
Aminar said the Myvi's
Elegance version, which has the highest specifications, was witnessing stronger
than expected demand with orders for 4,000 to 4,500 units.
As a result,
the waiting list for that variant is between 4 and 5 months while for the
others, the waiting list is about two to three months.
Aminar said the company
was focussed on selling as many cars as possible.
“We just
want to make a value-for-money car for the public,” he said.
The new Myvi
has not affected demand for the other makes of Perodua - the Alza and the Viva
- but Aminar said amendments to the Hire Purchase Act has led to a 20% to 25%
drop in the orders for the Viva.
Bookings for
the Viva prior to the Hire Purchase Act stood at 6,000-6,5000 units a month and
demand for the Alza is maintained at 2,800-3,000 units a month.
The problem,
he said, stemmed from the difficulty of customers to pay the 10% booking fee
for the Viva.
In the past, financing
packages were structured to ease the burden of people wanting to buy Perodua's
entry-level car but changes to the Hire Purchase Act has plugged such
practices. Aminar said talks were underway with banks to find a financial
package solution for such buyers.
“We are
trying to make the car affordable to the masses and have to come out with a
more innovative package,” he said
In my opinion, I believe that it is truly normal for Myvi to become the most
demanding car at Malaysia nowadays. It is due to the facts that, people are
looking for a much cheaper car that consumes less petrol and easy to drive
anywhere. Moreover, Myvi itself was a small car that could fit nicely either
from man to woman to drives it and also it is truly easy to be operated more
than bigger car such as Avanza. Myvi itself was one of the product which was
created by the Perodua Company and it came along as well with its twin
brothers, Viva and Alza. In spite of that, Myvi is still much more superior in
sales demand compare towards the other Perodua products since Myvi has a much
more nice looking figure which people considers as elegant and it causes a
slight disturbance in demands for the Viva and Alza products by 20 – 25% un
purposely as stated as above on the article.
Nowadays, people tends to choose using Myvi as their primary car due to the
facts that Myvi itself has a nice resale value compared towards other car and
it is really cheap or affordable. Moreover, the maintenance cost for the Myvi
product is really cheap as well as its fuel consumption. Despite of that, the
performance and the sensation of an enjoyable ride will also be reduced due to
the facts that cheap car provides less comfort as well. It is due to the facts
that expensive cars such as sports car for instance was created with a huge
amount of cc and horsepower which enables the car to run at its maximum speed
and performance. But, people don’t really give an attention towards expensive
cars since people prefer cheaper and efficient car these days.
Bookings for the car of Myvi in Malaysia have topped 21,000, up from 17,000
that was indicated on July 11th by Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua (Perodua) managing
director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh. This indicates that Myvi sales is
increasing in the past few years moving along with the current flow of
economics and the financial issues that is emerging through Malaysia these
days. It is due to the facts that normal people’s income or salary these days
for bureaucrat who works for the government or company could only afford them
for their daily life’s need and paying their house rent and saves up a very
little amount. In order to solve this problems, Perodua company decided to
create a car which cost our budget as little as possible not in just the price
for the car but in the fuel consumption as well ( it’s also good for the
environment since less emission is produced ).
That’s why Myvi become the first choice when people are looking for affordable
vehicles. Compared towards the other product or brand, Myvi is currently
sitting on the top charts for the best Resale value or the most demanded car
from the year of 2011 till now. It rules over another car sales over the period
beating up the number of Toyota Vios sales and all other Perodua own products
which are Viva and Alza, even it beats the number of their own country car
Protons sales.
Despite of the facts that Perodua Mivi is really popular amongst the Malaysian
people, there was once when the number of demands are increasing or maybe
stable but there was a shortage in the products. It is stated by the Malaysian
National Automaker Perodua that its production of cars is being disrupted by a
shortage of parts from Japan following the March 11 massive earthquake and
tsunami in northeast Japan. Perodua, which is partly owned by Japan’s Daihatsu
Motor Corp says that adjustments have been made to ensure inventories last
until May and no details are further elaborate. In a statement yesterday, the
compact car maker said it was in talks with Daihatsu and other vendors to
resolve the problem, which it described as a temporary setback. The disruption
has already led Perodua to delay the launch of a new car to the second half of
the year. It faces pressure to introduce new models to bolster sales and
maintain leadership in Southeast Asia’s largest passenger car market amid
competition from domestic rival Proton. In spite of all the troubles that they
are facing, people still believe in Myvi products which concludes that its
product has finally create an emotional attachment into the feelings of
the Malaysian society which expects many great things which could be derived
from buying this car in the state of economy crisis nowadays. The urge for
getting the least input and maximum output has put people on a test towards
making a decision whether looking for a cheap and efficient car or looking for
a really good looking car which could consumes much more money whether on
maintenance or its fuel consumption. But Myvi has finally answers all of the
doubts that society has nowadays since it provides comfort, elegance,
performance and most important of all, less consumptions in money.
In my own opinion, Myvi is truly the best choice of car products nowadays for
all those executives, professionals or even students who seeks for something
really efficient to drive anywhere and anytime because it has answers all the
things that society needs. Moreover in terms of styles, it’s not really bad
compared towards other car and in terms of speed, Myvi itself was quite a nice
race car despite of its appearance. In conclusion, Myvi is truly a recommended
car for all those people who seeks efficiency.
